History

of Clonmel Estate

Clonmel ("honey meadow") Estate is named after a castle in the town of Clonmel, Ireland, the home town of Mr. William Barrett.  In the year 1928, Mr. Barrett was informed that he was heir of a vast fortune left to him by a distant relative.  He traveled to Ireland to claim his fortune.  Upon returning to Port Dover, during the height of the Depression, he built a mansion which he named Clonmel.  The original estate included six hundred acres (presently six acres).  The house was built in the Georgian Revival style and was converted to a Bed and Breakfast in 1990.
